Washburn Street "Bricks" are coming down

Posted by LoneWolf

Seeing as tho it was mentioned in the Concert Thread that all it seems is that the concerts are the "Best news in Lockport"    I figured I would share this as a change of pace ..

As of this morning "The Bricks"  on Washburn Street are being torn down .. FINALLY .. its only been .. HOW LONG  since the fire and the condemnation of the building?
(Pic attached of the tear down.)

Not 100% sure if they are taking BOTH buildings down ,  or if a rebuild is planned. However the buildings DO have the fencing and a "Asbestos warning" sign around the entire (99%)  of the perimiter.

In the pic you cant see it BUT they do have a fire hose running across the street from the hydrant going to where they are working.. there are also workers dressed in white Tyvek suits  and with respirators on ..

Just another piece of "blight"  that is being removed from Lockport.

With that size lot I'm surprised HV didn't buy it and put up a bout a 20 unit apartment house. You know it's a serious problem in Lockport that we don't have any where near enough low income housing. We need to pack in more welfare people and their 20 kids apiece so we can fill our schools and raise our school taxes even more paying their welfare, food stamps, school taxes, special ed extras and medicaid!

don't forget a home for the sex offenders

If you don't want to see low income housing, move to Clarence.

A lot of working people I talk to are planning on getting out of Lockport, soon Lockport and it's schools will be basically majorly welfare.
It's too bad the direction this city is going, I agree with the first poster having HV add even more welfare apartments wasn't the best idea.

here's another one from our great city -from todays paper -Ulrich is selling citycentre to....the guy who appraised it for the city! And the guy gave him a sweetheart appraisal of $2.2 million meanwhile he is buying it for $2.8 million!!
Should this tax break be investigated? Is the $2.2 million fair?

"Lloyd is the third-party appraiser who recommended City Centre’s assessed value be fixed at $2.2 million last year, after Ulrich sued the city to force down the property’s taxable value in 2010. Lloyd was hired jointly by the city and Ulrich to appraise the property. Per the suit settlement order, City Centre’s assessed value will remain $2.2 million through the year 2013.

The City Centre in-lieu agreement provides its owner with partial property tax relief until the year 2021."

Well I for one see it as a sign of progress. Seems like Lockport is full of those who complain when action is not taken on something, but then complain more when work begins...

King Tuck gives Davey boy whatever he wants in the kingdom of LockVegas then Davey boy sues the city? WTF? I smell a fish, call the feds to do an investigation and toss them all in the federal clink :)

Point proven.

The cure to blight is not knocking it down. It is building it up. An empty lot does just as much to suppress neighborhood values than an empty structure.

So MJ what do you think, was it right for ther guy who told the city a fair market value assessment of Ulrich Center was $2.2m to turn around and buy it for $2.8m?
